Millennium Development Goals - Oasis is committed to the UN Millenium Development Goals and the Net2Work programme is actively involved as follows:

 MDG1

Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. Between 1990 and 2015 halve the number of people whose income is less than $1 per day, and halve the number of people who suffer from hunger.

Net2Work operates in areas of need among poor, vulnerable, disadvantaged and persecuted people groups. The programme seeks to empower these people with computer skills, HIV/AIDS and health education, general life skills, and advice on finding work.

MDG2

Achieve universal primary education. Ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.

Net2Work is not a substitute for primary education, but Oasis is able to help those who, often through no fault of their own, have not been able to complete their education and find work.

MDG3

Promote gender equality and empower women. Eliminate gender disparity in all levels of education by 2015.

The Net2Work programme is available to women and men and classes are selected to include an even proportion of both. In addition, the life-skills module also advocates gender equality in all aspects of life.

MDG4

Reduce child mortality. Reduce by two thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under 5 mortality rate.

By helping poor, vulnerable, disadvantaged or persecuted people to find work, and by raising awareness of health issues, Net2Work is having a positive impact in this area.

MDG5

Improve maternal health. Reduce by three quarters, between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality ratio.

Net2Work does not directly help in this area, but as Net2Work graduates escape from poverty and learn about general health issues the programme indirectly helps.

MDG6

Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases. Have halted by 2015 and begun the reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS, and the incidence of Malaria and other diseases.

The Net2Work training strongly advocates an awareness of HIV/AIDS and other general health issues. In high-risk areas advice about the prevention of Malaria is also taught.

MDG7

Ensure environmental sustainability. Integrate the principles of sustainable development in country policies. Halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without access to sustainable safe drinking water and sanitation. By 2020, to have achieved a significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers.

Net2Work is currently active is slum communities around the world and has demonstrated how it can positively impact the lives of many people living in these areas.

MDG8

Develop a global partnership for development. In co-operation with developing countries, develop and implement strategies for decent and productive work for youth. In co-operation with the private sector, make available the benefits of new technologies, especially information and communications.

Net2Work is educating people in developing countries with Information Technology, and directly promoting the use of new technologies.
